A WORD FROM OUR LORD
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Hantavirus Cruise Ship Outbreak Sparks Wider Global Response
A suspected hantavirus outbreak aboard the expedition cruise ship MV Hondius became an international health concern after passengers from multiple countries returned home before the virus was confirmed. Several passengers developed severe respiratory symptoms during the South Atlantic voyage, with at least three people dying and others hospitalized in different countries connected to the trip.
Health officials identified the Andes strain of hantavirus in some patients, a rare version capable of limited human-to-human transmission. Investigators believe the virus likely originated in South America before the voyage began, though limited onboard transmission has not been ruled out.
Reuters and The Guardian reported that health agencies across Europe, Africa, North America, and Asia launched urgent contact tracing efforts after exposed passengers boarded international flights. The MV Hondius, carrying around 150 passengers and crew, remained stranded off Cape Verde after some ports refused docking access due to fears of further spread.
The outbreak renewed concerns about how quickly infectious diseases can spread through cruise ships and international travel, even years after the COVID-19 pandemic.

ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
Even with modern medicine, technology, and global systems, outbreaks can still spread unexpectedly, reminding us how limited human control truly is. As Christians, we are reminded not to place our ultimate trust in human systems alone, but in God, who remains sovereign even in uncertainty and crisis.
RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR
Ukraine Unleashes One of War’s Biggest Drone Strikes
Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks of the war against Russia ahead of Moscow’s Victory Day celebrations, according to ABC and Reuters. Russian officials said air defenses shot down 347 Ukrainian drones across 20 regions overnight, including near Moscow, making it one of the biggest aerial assaults since the war began in 2022. Flights were disrupted, security was tightened, and internet restrictions were introduced in parts of Russia ahead of major military parades.
The attack came amid growing tensions over ceasefire proposals tied to the Victory Day events. Ukraine accused Russia of continuing strikes on Ukrainian territory despite earlier ceasefire discussions, while Russia claimed Ukraine was escalating the conflict through large-scale drone operations. Both sides later accused each other of violating a separate U.S.-backed ceasefire attempt.
The strikes highlighted how drone warfare has become one of the defining features of the conflict. Analysts said the scale of the attack demonstrated Ukraine’s growing long-range drone capabilities as both countries increasingly rely on unmanned warfare technologies.

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Ceasefires and peace agreements can bring temporary calm, yet history continually shows how fragile human peace can be. As Christians, we are reminded that true and lasting peace is not ultimately found in governments or negotiations, but in God alone.
US-IRAN WAR
Iran Reviews New US Peace Proposal
Iran said it was reviewing a new U.S.-backed peace proposal aimed at easing the conflict surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and reopening one of the world’s most important shipping lanes. Reuters reported the proposal would create a temporary truce while broader negotiations continued over Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions, and maritime access through the strait.
The proposal followed weeks of military clashes and major disruptions to global shipping and energy markets. President Donald Trump said Iran appeared interested in reaching a deal, while regional mediators helped facilitate indirect talks between Washington and Tehran.
Despite signs of progress, major disagreements remained unresolved. Iran reportedly demanded sanctions relief and changes to the U.S. naval blockade, while the United States insisted Iran must eventually address concerns surrounding its nuclear activities and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The negotiations were closely watched because the strait handles around one-fifth of the world’s oil trade. Hopes for a possible agreement pushed oil prices lower and stock markets higher, though analysts warned the ceasefire remained fragile as tensions continued in the Gulf region.

PEACE IS FROM GOD ALONE
The world’s intense focus on ceasefires and negotiations shows how deeply humanity longs for peace and stability. As Christians, we are reminded that while human agreements may help temporarily, true and lasting peace is ultimately found in God alone.
