A WORD FROM OUR LORD
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Two Jewish Men Wounded in Suspected Terror Attack in London
A stabbing attack in north London has heightened terrorism concerns across the UK, after two Jewish men were targeted in what authorities are treating as a terror-related incident.
The attack took place in the Golders Green area, a neighbourhood with a large Jewish community, where a knife-wielding suspect reportedly targeted victims based on their identity. Both victims were hospitalised and remain in stable condition, while the suspect, a 45-year-old man, was arrested at the scene after being subdued by police.
Counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation, with officials examining potential motives including extremism and antisemitic intent. Authorities also confirmed the suspect had previously been referred to a government counter-radicalisation programme, raising further concerns about monitoring and prevention.
In response, the UK raised its national terrorism threat level from “substantial” to “severe,” meaning an attack is now considered highly likely. Officials said the decision reflects a broader rise in extremist threats, not just the single incident.

ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
Moments like this can force us to confront how extreme human thinking can become. It’s easy to assume that people who do harm are simply “worse,” while we see ourselves as good or justified in our own beliefs.
But Scripture challenges that idea. “All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). What we often call goodness, when rooted in ourselves, can become distorted, even dangerous when taken to extremes.
The call isn’t to trust our own sense of righteousness, but to let go of it. True goodness doesn’t come from us, it comes from God. When we rely on His righteousness instead of our own, it leads not to division or harm, but to humility, love, and truth.
RUSSIA-UKRAINE
Civilians Caught as Russia and Ukraine Trade Fresh Strikes
Russian and Ukrainian forces have continued exchanging strikes, with fresh attacks reported across multiple regions as the conflict shows no sign of easing.
Ukrainian officials said Russian drones and missiles targeted cities including Kyiv and Dnipro, damaging residential areas and critical infrastructure, and causing civilian casualties. Air defence systems intercepted some of the strikes, but several still hit their targets, leaving parts of cities without power and prompting emergency responses.
Russia, meanwhile, reported Ukrainian drone attacks on its own territory, including regions near the border, with officials claiming damage to buildings and infrastructure. Both sides accuse each other of escalating the conflict, with neither showing willingness to step back.
The continued exchanges highlight the ongoing intensity of the war, as civilians remain caught in the middle and efforts toward a ceasefire show little progress.

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Stories like this show how quickly conflict can spiral when both sides keep responding to each other. One strike leads to another, and the cycle continues.
In our own lives, it can look similar. We try to share the gospel with loved ones, and when they don’t listen, it can turn into arguments and tension.
“Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9). Not every conversation needs to be forced. Sometimes the strongest witness is patience, not pressure.
THE ECONOMY
Fed Holds Interest Rates as Uncertainty Clouds Economy
The US Federal Reserve has decided to keep interest rates unchanged, holding them in the range of 3.5% to 3.75% for the third straight meeting this year.
The decision comes as officials try to balance a difficult situation. Inflation has come down from earlier highs but is still above the Fed’s target, while economic growth and job gains remain uneven. At the same time, rising energy prices and global tensions have added uncertainty to the outlook.
Inside the Fed, there is growing disagreement about what to do next. Some policymakers wanted different guidance or action, showing division over whether rates should stay high longer or begin to fall.
For now, the Fed is taking a wait-and-see approach. Officials say future decisions will depend on how inflation, jobs, and the wider economy develop, with no clear signal yet on when rates might change.

WE BELONG TO GOD
Jesus said, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:21).
Just like how we pay taxes or give to the church, it reflects a simple reality, money belongs to this world, but we belong to God.

King Charles addressed the US Congress in a formal speech, marking a rare appearance by a British monarch before American lawmakers. He spoke about the long-standing relationship between the UK and the United States, referencing shared history and past cooperation. The speech also touched on current global challenges, including security and environmental issues. The address was largely symbolic, reflecting diplomatic ties between the two countries rather than announcing any specific policy changes.
Australia has been shaken by a child murder case after police discovered a body believed to be a missing five-year-old girl, prompting a major investigation. Authorities launched an extensive search before making the discovery, with a suspect now being pursued. The case has drawn widespread attention across the country, as police continue working to confirm details and determine what happened.
Around 287 candidates have been nominated for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, including both individuals and organisations, reflecting a wide range of global efforts toward peace. The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not officially confirm names due to strict secrecy rules, though speculation often surrounds high-profile figures. The final winner will be announced later this year, with the nominations highlighting ongoing global conflicts and peace efforts.
Global oil prices have surged past $120 a barrel, marking one of the most severe energy shocks in recent years as supply disruptions and geopolitical tensions strain markets. The spike is raising fuel costs worldwide and adding pressure to economies already facing inflation, with analysts warning the impact could spread across industries and global supply chains.
China has increased military activity in the disputed South China Sea, carrying out naval and air patrols near the Scarborough Shoal, a contested area also claimed by the Philippines. The move comes as the US, Philippines, and allied countries conduct large-scale military exercises in the region, with China saying its patrols are meant to protect its territorial claims. The situation has added to rising tensions in the area, with both sides pushing back against each other’s actions and no clear resolution in sight.
